Following on BCAG’s Climate Solutions 101 video presentations in April and May, this presentation is intended to gather folks wanting to “Find their Voice” to express concern and take positive action in a coordinated and effective way. BCAG intends to establish a working team in this area for ongoing elected official and public information advocacy.

Dave Atkins, a forest ecologist, co-leader of the Missoula Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) and Vice President of the Montana Forest Owners Association, will present this event. Topics include:

• Advocacy through Print Media for contacting elected officials and writing letters to the editor, including CCL's guidelines and techniques making the process easier and more effective.

• Connecting with Opposing Views, including how CCL has honed language, tools, and strategies around the evolving climate to build understanding and bipartisan approaches.

• Holding Candidates Accountable, including approaches to promoting voting with climate change in mind and making sure candidates' positions/solutions on climate are clearly understood.

In 2020 BCAG raised over $800 as private matching funds to support a Montana Dept of Environmental Quality grant to install an electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) next to Hamilton City Hall on 2nd street.

The level 2 EVCS is now installed and ready for use! Restriping of the parking lot and other improvements are underway to make the 2-stall charging station more easily accessible.

BCAG thanks all of our donors, and particularly Bitterroot Brewing and Higher Ground Brewing, for their contributions that helped make this new facility, the first EVCS in Hamilton, possible. Also, big kudos to Hamilton City Planner Matthew Rorhbach who wrote the grant application, marshalled additional City support and saw this challenging project through to installation. Way to go!

DEQ has given grants for a series of EVCSs throughout western Montana, including a “fast charge” station to be built at the Towne Pump at the north end of Hamilton on Hwy 93.

In this excellent 30 minute video, Dr. Scott Denning from Colorado State University explains weird weather in a way that makes sense in his talk for the Montana Citizens’ Climate Lobby.

Dr Denning is the author of more than 100 papers in environmental science.
